Wheeler Clinic to expand critical dental care access

On November 15, 2017, the CHEFA Board voted to award a grant in the amount of $75,000 to Wheeler Clinic to expand critical dental care access for low-income Hartford patients at their new Family Health & Wellness Center on Woodland Street.  At the official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting on January 8, 2018, Wheeler’s President and CEO, Susan Walkama thanked CHEFA for their grant award which will outfit one of the four dental operatory rooms.  “Our commitment to the health and well-being of Connecticut residents is evidenced by this important grant to Wheeler Clinic.  Good dental health

The Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority is aware of a class action lawsuit named In re LIBOR-Based Financial Instruments Antitrust Litigation, MDL No. 2262, that is pending in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The lawsuit claims that Barclays Bank plc and other defendants unlawfully manipulated the U.S. Dollar LIBOR rate, artificially lowering the rate to reduce payment to class members. 

Updated Grant Program Policies

The CHEFA Board of Directors met and approved updated grant program policies.  CHEFA issues tax-exempt bonds for 501(c)(3) entities, primarily in the healthcare, educational, childcare, and cultural sectors.  Grants will be made to 501(c )( 3) organizations or public educational institutions that are constituent units as defined in C.G.S.§10a-1 whose core mission fits into one of these four sectors.   The mission of your organization as a whole must fit into one of our four priority areas in order for your organization to be eligible for a CHEFA grant.

Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford receives new handicapped van

Gaylord Hospital has a new handicapped-accessible van, thanks to a grant from a quasi-governmental agency created to help Connecticut-based nonprofit organizations.

POST-ISSUANCE TAX COMPLIANCE WEBINAR

On May 18, 2017, CHEFA hosted a Post Issuance Tax Compliance Webinar on the IRS Schedule K (Form 990). The webinar was presented by Marybeth E. Frantz, Esq. of Harris Beach PLLC and provided an in-depth review of the Schedule K requirements so that future filings are easier and more complete.

         October 12, 2016 (Hartford, CT)  – Governor Dannel P. Malloy has appointed Peter W. Lisi, Ph.D. as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA)and has appointed Mark Varholak as a member of the CHEFA Board.  CHEFA provides access to the tax-exempt bond market for not-for-profit health care and educational institutions in the state.  Through CHEFA, these organizations can finance infrastructure projects using funds from private investors.
