CHEFA Launches New Rapid-Response Grant Program to Help Nonprofits Overcome Unexpected Challenges

When unexpected challenges arise, nonprofit organizations are often forced to act quickly to protect critical services and support the communities they serve.

To help address these situations, CHEFA is launching the Rapid-Response Grant Program, a funding opportunity designed to provide Connecticut nonprofits with timely financial assistance when urgent, unforeseen needs threaten service continuity. The program launches September 15, 2026.

The program offers grants ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 and is funded entirely through CHEFA resources. Eligible organizations must have missions and provide services that align with one of CHEFA’s focus areas, including childcare, cultural programs, education, healthcare, human services and wellness, or long-term care/senior living.

Unlike traditional grant programs that often follow annual funding cycles, the Rapid-Response Grant Program is specifically designed to address urgent situations that require immediate attention. Funding may be used for eligible expenses directly related to unforeseen circumstances that threaten an organization’s ability to continue providing services.

The application process begins with an inquiry to CHEFA’s Grants Program Manager. Following an initial discussion and approval to apply, organizations can submit a streamlined application through CHEFA’s online grants management system. Complete applications are expected to be reviewed within 10 business days with funding awards made in about a month.

By providing flexible funding for time-sensitive needs, CHEFA is helping Connecticut nonprofits remain resilient, responsive, and focused on their missions. Whether serving students, patients, families, seniors, or communities in need, nonprofits play a critical role across the state, and the Rapid-Response Grant Program is designed to ensure they can continue that important work when unexpected challenges arise.
