CHEFA’s 2026 Roadshow Highlights Key Financing & Grant Opportunities for Connecticut Nonprofits

CHEFA recently welcomed nonprofit leaders from across the state to its 2026 Roadshow. The event offered a comprehensive overview of CHEFA’s financing and grant programs, and community development resources, all designed to strengthen the capacity of Connecticut’s nonprofit and public‑serving sectors.

A major focus of the Roadshow was CHEFA’s tax‑exempt bond financing, a cornerstone resource for large‑scale capital projects. Attendees learned how tax‑exempt bonds reduce borrowing costs by allowing investors to accept lower interest rates, resulting in meaningful long‑term savings for nonprofit borrowers.

In addition to bond financing, CHEFA highlighted its Capital Investments Loan Program (CILP)—a flexible, low‑cost financing tool offering up to $500,000 at 2.99% for capital improvements such as HVAC upgrades, vehicles, equipment, and facility renovations. The EasyLoan Program was also discussed, which provides streamlined financing for equipment purchases, including medical, diagnostic, IT, and energy‑efficiency systems.

CHEFA staff also highlighted the work of the CHEFA Community Development Corporation (CHEFA CDC) and the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program, which supports high‑impact projects in low‑income census tracts. Nonprofits learned how NMTC financing can fill capital gaps, accelerate development timelines, and strengthen service delivery in underserved communities.

Rounding out the program was a detailed review of CHEFA’s grant programs—including the annual John M. Biancamano Client, and Nonprofit Grant Programs, as well as the multi‑year Enterprise Capital Grant Program, supporting long‑term organizational growth and capacity building. Attendees received guidance on eligibility, application requirements, funding priorities, and timelines for upcoming cycles.

CHEFA thanks all the nonprofit partners who attended this year’s Roadshow and remains committed to providing cost‑effective financing, and community‑focused resources that help organizations deliver essential services across Connecticut.
